Overview: At MercyOne home health and hospice, care goes beyond medical support – it’s about creating meaningful moments. A recent visit with therapy goats shows how small experiences can bring comfort, connection and joy to those we serve.
At MercyOne home health and hospice, we believe care is about more than meeting medical needs. It’s about creating moments that matter – moments filled with connection, comfort and even a little joy.
That belief came to life during a special visit, when something unexpected brought smiles to patients at a local skilled nursing facility: baby goats.
A simple moment that meant everything
Hospice Account Executive Alex A. helped organize the visit, bringing in therapy goats so residents at a local community could see, hold and interact with the animals up close. The impact was immediate.
Smiles spread. Laughter followed. Conversations began to flow more easily. For many, it was a chance to reconnect with happy memories, feel a sense of calm and simply enjoy the moment. What might seem like a small gesture made a big difference.
Why moments like this matter in hospice care
In hospice care, emotional and spiritual well-being are just as important as physical comfort. Experiences like animal therapy can help reduce stress, ease feelings of loneliness and create opportunities for meaningful connection.
Our hospice team works to support the whole person – body, mind and spirit – and that includes helping families make lasting memories, even during difficult times.
Compassion in action every day
While this visit was unique, the heart behind it is part of everyday care we provide. Our team look for ways – both big and small – to bring comfort, connection and peace to every person we serve. Because in hospice care, it’s often the simplest moments that matter the most.
